I became a Kambo practitioner through my inspiring friend and teacher,
Yessia Muse, and her Medicine Mystics Advanced Kambo Training program
I first heard about Kambo through a friend of mine, and remember telling her that I would never do it. It sounded too intense for my liking, and I couldn’t understand why someone would put themselves through something like that. Then one day out of the blue, Yessia contacted me and asked if I would be interested in sitting with her, and my whole body said yes. I finally felt the call.
In February of 2020, my relationship with Kambo began. I sat two nights in a row, and was left feeling more energized and clear than I had in a very long time. I knew right then and there that Kambo was a powerful tool, and I most definitely wanted it in my toolbox. Since then, I have been deepening my connection with the frog and healing my body, mind, and spirit. I am lucky enough to have been served by many talented facilitators, before receiving my self-serve training through True Self Renewal. Once I completed my self-serve, I sat one on one with the medicine in the comfort of my own home, whenever I felt the need to cleanse and reconnect. Then, Kambo began to speak to me in a whole new way.
I reached out to Yessia and expressed my interest in becoming a practitioner, and she rejoiced. She told me that she could sense my deeper relationship with Kambo, and could see me as a carrier of the medicine. She agreed to take me on as her student, and I enrolled in her advanced training program soon after. Yessia was trained through the International Association of Kambo Practitioners (IAKP), and did a mentorship program as well. Both her teacher and her mentor have lived alongside many of the Amazonian tribes, and received their blessings to share Kambo with the world.
My training consisted of many personal sittings with Kambo, including a 3x3 ceremony (3 servings of Kambo within 3 hours), as well as a lot of shadowing and assisting in ceremonies. Once she felt I was ready, I was left to guide people one on one through their experiences. It was an incredibly humbling, yet empowering, journey.
Since completing my training, I have continued to sit with the medicine whenever I feel called, and experiment with different placements and numbers of points to better understand the complexities of our bodies during this process. Our healing work is never done, and I always strive to be the best that I can be for my clients, and myself.
As of July 2023, I also received my certificate of completion for the Lyme and Autoimmune Specialty Training course for Kambo practitioners, instructed by Caitlin Thompson of Medicine Frog Kambo. This course has helped me deepen my knowledge and understanding on how to support those with more severe health conditions.
In May of 2024, I traveled to Iquitos, Peru, alongside Caitlin Thompson and seven other Kambo practitioners for a cultural exchange and jungle immersion trip. This experience gave us the opportunity to deepen our relationship with Kambo, as well as the indigenous communities that have been carrying and protecting this medicine for decades. It was far from a relaxing getaway, to say the least. It was a very raw, at times challenging, inspiring, and deeply meaningful trip. Not only were we able to connect with the frogs, the people, and the jungle, but we were given the opportunity to give back to the villages that held us during our visit. We had the pleasure of sitting with medicine fresh off the frog, and went searching for the frogs by boat, into the jungle, after sun down. My perspective has been shifted in many ways since returning from Iquitos, and I truly believe that every single Kambo practitioner should have this experience, at least to truly understand where their medicine is coming from, and how it is harvested.
As practitioners, we have a responsibility to protect this medicine. We must nurture our relations with the communities who have made our connection to Kambo possible, and we must always walk in integrity within our personal practice, and our service to others.
I am very passionate about this work, and truly can not wait to share this magic with all that are interested.
I recently received my Home Herbalist certificate through Pacific Rim College, and will be upgrading to the Community Herbalist program in the coming months
Herbal medicine has always been fascinating to me, but it has really peaked my interest in the last few years. Educating myself further in this area and becoming a herbalist felt like the next step in my journey. I am excited to bring the world of Kambo, and the world of medicinal herbs, together, and share both of them with my clients and my family. Learning how to heal ourselves with plants is the ultimate life hack, wouldn’t you agree?
More to come on this soon!
